Frequently Asked Questions
When should I call to book my newborn session?
The earlier you book your newborn session, the better! I am committed to providing a beautiful, custom session for each client that comes into my studio so I only allow up to TWO due dates per week. Once your baby arrives, just send me a quick email or give me a call and we will solidify the session date. Planning the session before your baby arrives also allows me to create a custom session just for you!
When do newborn sessions take place?
Newborn sessions are typically done in the first 12 days of life. It's the best time to capture those curly, sweet poses and document every detail of their tiny perfect features! Because each baby is different, I plan on a 2-4 hour session to allow time to get the gorgeous shots you want while leaving plenty of time to go at the pace of your little one.
What should baby wear?
Newborn details are best captured without any clothing at all. I also love to photograph newborns swaddled in blankets and snuggled up tight in buckets and baskets. I have an extensive supply of newborn hats, bows and darling little outfits thnat coordinate beautifully with my blankets and wraps. Please feel free to bring any hats or headbands that you wish to have your baby photographed in.
How should I prepare for my newborn session?
Plan on feeding your baby a full feeding right before you leave for the session or upon arriving at the studio. Full tummies mean happy and sleepy babies and beautiful images for you! If your schedule allows, hold off feeding for a few hours before coming to the studio to ensure a full feeding before the session. We will take several breaks for feeding baby during the session to ensure that baby is happy and has a full tummy. Please bring your baby dressed in a loose-fitting diaper and something easy to take off. In every effort to keep your baby comfortable, this will more easily facilitate smooth transitions and help keep your baby relaxed.
What do I need to do at the session?
Enjoy yourself! Besides feedings and possibly needing an extra hand in insure safety in posing, I will take care of everything. I have a massage chair set up and my goal is to make this as relaxed and easy for you as possible. Feel free to take a snooze, or sit and watch as I pose and fawn over your little one! As a mother of four, I’ve been right in your shoes and if I can take away even a bit of your stress load, I am happy to do it!
What should I wear for parent poses?
Planning to capture the love between you and you little one? Perfect! I love to capture that fresh and immediate love between parent and baby. For family and parent images, I recommend wearing solid, neutral-colored tops such as gray, white, cream or black. Everyone doesn’t need to match, just coordinate on colors.
What if my baby pees during the session?
Being a mother of four myself, I am used to being pooped and peed on so nothing fazes me. I already plan to wash everything baby touches between sessions to insure that everything is fresh and ready for each baby. That’s why I only allow for one session per day.
What if the baby or I get sick?
Please let me know if you or your baby are sick! I take every safety measure possibly to insure that your little one’s health remains intact. I am happy to reschedule your session to capture this stage once you are all healthy and germ-free! Please put the health of you and your little one first!
